Craig Brown – Taekwondo

Craig Brown is a Team GB Olympian in Taekwondo during the Athens Olympics in 2004, with the goal of gaining a place in the London 2012 Taekwondo squad.

Craig grew up in the rough area of Peckham, South London and started Taekwondo when I was 11 years old and has managed to  win 8 British titles and medalist twice at the European Championships.

A leaflet was handed out at Craig’s school and he begged his mum to take him to the class so he could be just like his idols, Bruce Lee and Muhammad Ali. Along with the teachings of his mother and Father, Taekwondo has kept him on the straight and narrow, away from negativity which could have easily sent him down a very different path. It has also equipped him with valuable life skills and values which have shaped him into the athlete and individual he is today.

For 6 years up to November 2009 Craig was based in Loughborough then Manchester training full time with the National Taekwondo Academy.  Since leaving the Academy he has moved back to London and continued with his own training program and competing regularly.

He has also opened up his own Taekwondo club “Positive Impact” which is aimed at the local problematic community.  The club is hopefully having a “positive Impact” on many young people’s lives, just like Craig’s first club and instructors had on his own life.

Competing in Athens Olympics (2004) for GB was an amazing experience for Craig that has left him even more focused and intent on fulfilling his ultimate dream which is to be an Olympic medalist.

Due to injury Craig was ruled out of the Beijing Olympics in 2008 but now he is fully fit, fully determined  and has one goal …….. London 2012.
